What we do

We provide practical information and training. Lune Valley Flood Forum provided training for the Council and Community in partnership with Lancaster City Council, Cumbria Action for Sustainablity and CLASP. We get involved in educational and fun activities that make people more aware of the Lune Catchment and her tributaries.
We hold regular meetings in Lancaster. At our June 2018 meeting we hosted respected hydrologist Proffessor Keith Beven who outlined some of the problems we have with increasing flood risk and the research Lancaster Environment Centre are doing on this subject.

There seems to be more flood risk, but there is also more rainfall, possibly due to climate change, but there is also more run off from surface water flooding which can be put down to:
  • Urbanisation (impermeable surfaces)
  • Changes in land management
  • Wetter catchments before an event ie: the series of events not just an individual event (eg. Storm Desmond)
  • Building of flood defences which result in less storage and tend to move the problem elsewhere.
